The name says it all… Brothers focuses on the theme of ‘brotherhood’. A journey through entanglement, competition and struggle, but also intimacy, connection and collaboration.

The piece is embodied by the movement concept of threading, which originates from breakdance. With a thread, you create a physical opening by connecting multiple body parts together and pass through it with another body part. In Brothers, brothers Justin and Sem string limbs together in all sorts of different ways, creating flowy but sometimes also struggling, movement sequences that take you into a hypnotic trance.

Biography Justin & Sem

Justin de Jager and Sem Deliveyne started out as breakers and found each other in a shared love for the movement concept of threading. Since 2019, they have been exchanging, training, researching, creating and performing together. The brotherly collaboration resulted in '23 to the creation Brothers, which was made for Here We Live And Now from Korzo and NDT. Since then, the piece has performed at Café Theater Festival, Breakin' Convention, Moving Futures, Urban Dansdagen, Festival Boulevard, Zlavta Festival in Slovenia and Tancesraz in the Czech Republic. In collaboration with DOX in April '24, they created a full-length site-specific version of Brothers in the bunker Grounded in Utrecht.
